BAY ST. LOUIS “This Property is Condemned” movie site street markers will be unveiled Nov. 2 at several spots in the Depot District where portions of the movie were filmed in 1966.

The movie, based on a play by Tennessee Williams, starred Robert Redford and Natalie Wood and was directed by Sydney Pollack.

The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre is housed in the two-story building that served as the Starr Boarding House in the movie. It will get its own marker, as will the spot where Robert Redford used an ice cream cone to make a point, and in front of the church that was transformed into a movie theater for the filming. Other spots include the depot itself.

Each of the seven markers will have a photo and some copy explaining the movie scene associated with the spot.

The markers will be unveiled at 4 p.m. and at 5 p.m., author Kenneth Holditch, who has written five books about Tennessee Williams, will give a lecture on the writer at the Little Theatre.

At 6:30 p.m., fans can attend a screening of “This Property” in the back yard of the Little Theatre. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets and watch the movie that so many of us Bay residents watched being filmed.

The event, lecture and movie are all free.

  1. How great that this movie and these stars will be remembered!! I watched them film this very scene! Natale Wood, Charles Bronson were so nice stopped and talked with us. I loved the movie!

  2. Sounds like fun, the screening in particular. Loved the movie, but the filming bored me to tears. The 10th or 12th time they reshot the scene in your photo (above), I gave up and went for a beer.

  3. i remember watching filming from home. My mom was an extra in the movie. The movie brings back memories. Looking forward to the date.
