Coastal Cleanup bags marine trash

Thanks to all of the 1,277 volunteers who had a part in Saturday’s Coastal Cleanup Day. By the end of the soggy event, they had picked up 956 bags of trash from our beaches and waterways. That’s 15,465 pounds of trash.

The cleanup is organized by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and Mississippi Marine Debris Task Force.

Earlier, volunteers with Mississippi Power’s Renew Our Rivers program pitched in to clean three coastal sites. They removed 8.7 tons of large unbaggable debris. Thanks to them, too.

P.S. Shame on those sorry people who have no regard for our marine environment.

  1. Thank you, Lisa. If every person who takes out a boat or goes to the beach would bag and properly dispose of his/her own trash, Coastal Cleanup could become a thing of the past. Not likely to happen while I’m still knocking about this planet, I’m afraid.
