Meantime, back to business. The Department of Marine Resources is telling crab fishermen, commercial and recreational,  they must remove their traps from state waters Feb. 7-13. On Feb. 14-16, all traps remaining in the water will be removed with help from volunteers and recycled.

Locally, you can drop off derelict traps  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 14-16 at the Pleasure Street Boat Launch in Bay St. Louis.

Come Feb. 17 , crab fishermen can return traps to Mississippi waters beginning at 6 a.m. to commence crabbing.

The Mississippi Derelict Crab Trap Removal Program has removed and recycled more than 21,600 traps since its inception in 1999. If you want to volunteer for this year’s program, call the MDMR Shrimp and Crab Bureau at (228) 374-5000.

Cheap gas

There was a parking lot jam at the Shell Station at Main and U.S. 90 yesterday afternoon with drivers pulling in for $1.68-a-gallon gas. My fill up was $15.50. I know.
