After seeing the good news on WLOX about Pirate’s Cove’s new permanent location on Menge Avenue, I found this old photo on the You Know You’re from the Bay Facebook page. It’s a candy store at Beach Boulevard and Washington Street where Sellier’s later opened.

Sellier’s roast beef poboys were a Sunday night staple in my house. I’d go up the block to the sandwich shop across from the Star Theater and come back with a bag filled with the hot, “dressed” sandwiches, each one tightly wrapped in crisp white butcher paper.

Open a Barq’s, grab a handful of napkins and dive in. Crunchy French bread, tender beef and rich, dark gravy dripping out with every bite. What a treat. I’d love one right now. You?

  1. I know you won’t believe this, but I never had any kind of po-boy from Sellier’s. I lived on the wrong side of town (boo-hoo)! But the ones at Pirate’s Cove are OK by me. Cannot wait to get one. And also so very glad there are INSIDE tables again.
