BAY ST. LOUIS They had me at the waxed lips.

No, the malted milk balls. Wait, no. The Caramel Puffs that everybody at BridgeFest was raving about.

It’s The Candy Jar, the new sweets shop inside Maggie Mays at 126 Main Street where you can get an impressive assortment of mix-and-match wrapped candy and candy by the scoop.

The list of candy and chocolate is long and changes some but here is a sampling of what’s available: Squirrel Nut Zippers, Runts, Yogurt Peanuts, Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds, Honey Sesame Crunch Bites, Candy Corn, 12 flavors of Gummi Bears, Boston Baked Beans and stuff I didn’t know they even made anymore like Mary Janes, Necco Wafers and Bit O Honey. The list does go on and on.

Hours are Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Owners are Brehm Bell and Tracy Shields. Find them on Facebook, too. You can vote on new candy choices to fill the next candy jar.

As they say at The Candy Jar, why keep a lid on it?

  1. Seriously?! Malted milk balls!? I haven’t had those in ages. Must visit when my daughter is in town, then she can take any leftovers away with her to Starkville.
