BAY ST. LOUIS Ever since Rebecca Diaz got back from market in Atlanta, her Gourmet Galley shop on Main Street has been getting boxes of the latest kitchen items delivered almost daily.
If you cook and entertain, you’ll love what’s going on to the Gourmet Galley shelves. Some of it isn’t staying around very long.

On a recent visit, here’s what I found:

Le Creuset cookware, among the best there is, and the most attractive, too. The cookware comes in various sizes, shapes and colors.

The Chillsner by Corkcicle goes directly into a beer bottle and keeps it icy cold. It’s similar to the one that chills wine in the bottle.

A Swedish-made fire starter that lights your fire in the grill, fire pit or in the fireplace in 60 seconds. Rebecca said this one has been home tested and it really works as promised.

One big trend now is silicone kitchen tools that can go in the oven, in pots and pans on the stove and in the microwave. Gourmet Galley sells loads of the colorful items, including an omelet maker and a small steamer basket.

A really interesting line by Charles Viancin makes silicone covers in several shapes such as a lily pad and banana leaf that fit tightly on top of bowls. The covers are a great alternative to plastic wrap.

Joseph Joseph is another new line that’s creating lots of buzz for its styllish, award-winning designs. There’s a garlic crusher that rocks back and forth as it’s doing its work, and the Elevate Collection of kitchen tools and utensils designed to reduce cooking messes by keeping the head of the tool off the counter. Joseph Joseph’s chopping boards are innovative as well and would look very cool in any kitchen.

And if you’re one of the few who hasn’t bought a made-in-the-USA Garlic Twist, get one soon. Rebecca said she’s sold more than 800 of the mincers.
