WAVELAND Ernie Zimmerman of Waveland has been appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant to the Commission on Marine Resources.

Ernie has been a member of the Coastal Conservation Association since 2002 and is the current president of the Bay St. Louis chapter. He served as president from 2002 to 2007. He’s also a member of the Mississippi Wildlife Federation.

His career includes working as a superintendent for Trinity Yachts in Gulfport and as production technician for Calgon Carbon in Bay St. Louis. Ernie attended St. Stanislaus High School and Pearl River Community College.

Zimmerman is a lifelong resident of Waveland. He and wife Kim Scafidi have two daughters, Rachael and Gabrielle.

“I am honored and humbled by this appointment from Gov. Bryant and look forward to protecting the sustainability of our marine and coastal resources for all Mississippians,” Zimmerman said. “I would like to thank the governor and the people of our state for this opportunity to serve them. This appointment makes me understand that my work protecting our marine environment has not gone unnoticed.”

Ernie replaces Vernon Asper, who resigned from the Commission in July. His appointment will be brought before the Mississippi Senate for confirmation during the 2014 legislative session.
