Oyster reefs to reopen Saturday

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Friday that most oyster reefs that were closed Nov. 19 because of poor water quality will reopen at legal sunrise Saturday, Nov. 23.

These are the reefs that will reopen:

Area II “A” Conditionally Approved Waters – This area includes northern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs and Hornets reef.

Area II “B” Conditionally Approved Waters – This area includes the Waveland and St. Stanislaus reefs.

Area II “C” Conditionally Approved Waters – and its subdivisions of II “E,” II “F” and II “G” – these areas include southern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs, Square Handkerchief Reef and northern portions of the Pass Marianne and Telegraph reefs.

All other areas will remain closed to the harvest of oysters, including the public reefs in St. Louis Bay between the U.S. Highway 90 bridge and the CSX Railroad bridge. All other oyster harvest rules and regulations will remain in effect.
