Ah, Memorial Day weekend. Time for the Formosan termites to swarm.

Facebook friends were abuzz and aghast last night after finding the swarming termites everywhere.

This morning Nola.com had this front page headline:
Major Formosan termites swarm in New Orleans area on Thursday night

It happens every year around this time when the temperature, humidity and wind conditions are prime for the termites to come out and party.

Considering all the insects we have to deal with – mosquitoes, cockroaches, fire ants, etc. – I guess termites aren’t the worst. Unless they decide to make your home their home.
