Update: Beacon Theater opening soon in Waveland

You asked for it (Jean Prescott). Here’s the latest on the revival of the movie theater in Waveland.

Owner Charlie Watzke promises it will be at least a month but “no longer than 60 days” before the Beacon opens its doors to movie fans.

The sign, procured from an old theater in Florida, is being polished up for installation, the custom-made food and ticket counters are in place and most other major work is done. New projectors and sound systems are ready and work continues on the upstairs space for a cocktail lounge. “It’s a complete renovation,” he said.

Watzke said the Beacon will show first-run movies but ticket prices will be less than in Slidell and Gulfport.

Two of the four auditoriums will offer food service. Watzke is still working on the menus and the configuration for those two.
