Details on Dan B’s return to the beach

The Murphy family plans to open the new Dan B’s on the Bay St. Louis beachfront in about six months.

The location is the same as pre-Katrina Dan B’s but the look will be different. “The theme is like a Gulf Coast fish camp,” Ken Murphy said.

The structure will have a simple design and construction will take about 90 days to complete. “We hope to be open by May,” Murphy said.

The building will be two stories, with screened in porches on both levels. “The kitchen will be on the first floor along with a deck furnished with tables and chairs. We will also have a dumbwaiter to deliver food to the second floor bar.”

The Murphys are sticking with their original poboy menu, including Dan B’s signature roast beef and the popular catfish version. Customers will place their orders at the window on the first floor. Dan B’s will be open daily from 11 a.m. until closing. “Starting at 10 p.m. on most nights, the main kitchen will close and it will be 21 years and older with a bar menu of wings and pizza,” Murphy said. “We plan to have bands on the weekends.”

Two things will set the new Dan B’s apart from the other beach bars now open, he said. “We’ll have handicapped access. There will be a lift for wheelchairs to take people up to the second floor.”

Dan B’s also will be kid friendly. “We’ll have a kid’s menu and a place for them to hang out that’s safe and fun and secure,” Murphy said.
