Carnival, Arctic blast & drones

Doesn’t take long for the New Year to settle right in. Here on the first full week of 2015, I’m reading about the Jazz Fest dates (April 24-26, and April 30-May 3) and the Carnival events piling up during this compressed season, starting tomorrow and ending on Mardi Gras, Feb. 17.

I also am focused on the big gadget show that’s happening Tuesday through Thursday in Las Vegas.
Officially, it’s the International Consumer Electronics Show, known for its mix of got-to-have-it-now stuff to over-the-top electronics. Last year more than 160,000 attended. This year, the big topic will be the Internet of Things that will, among things, let us control our home security systems and kitchen appliances with our smartphones and computers.

I may be a year behind, but what I really want is a drone. And a robot, preferably the cleaning kind. And a thermostat that adjusts the heat automatically on a cold morning like today.

Wait. I already have one of those thermostats. Maybe I’ll read the instructions again.

Meantime, the week is filling up. Bay Council is tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. Rickey’s Off the Tracks opens Wednesday. An Arctic air mass moves in Wednesday night and stays around through Friday.
More details on all this later.
