Bless their self-serving hearts

Let’s talk a little politics this morning, OK?

My main interest is on the national level but on the local level I regularly attend city council meetings. It’s usually better than TV. The board of supervisors seems more yokel than local but I do plan to start going to their meetings soon. Maybe for Lent.

On the state level, I don’t pay enough attention to the Legislature. Watching those (mostly) boys in Jackson tends to frustrate and depress me.

Not to disappoint in this election year, we now have two bills filed to make the Bible the state book. One proponent told a reporter: “The Bible provides a good role model on how to treat people. They could read in there about love and compassion.”

What these self-serving lawmakers NEED to do is fix our state’s compounding problems instead of trying to distract us from their inability and unwillingness to get something important done. Bless their hearts.

  1. AMEN sister! I agree..Do you understand the “educational” part being put on the ballot? Very confusing. Doesn’t sound good to me.

  2. Perhaps, someone should point out to the legislature that any book designated as a state book would be futile. One has to learn to read first. Our schools are not the blame, it’s the parent, parents or grandma who refuse to take responsibility. My daughter asked me to watch what I thought was a silly movie. At the end, I realized that our society, if not now, will be like the characters portrayed in this film. Watch, “Idiocracy.”
