DEQ issues water contact advisory in Waveland

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s beach monitors issued a water contact advisory today for one sampling station in Waveland.

The segment of beach from Oak Boulevard east to Favre Street isn’t closed but DEQ says there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area.

Not sure who would be out swimming today but anyway MDEQ says it’s working with local officials to advise residents that the water in that location may have high bacteria levels.

The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory does the water sampling on our beaches for MDEQ and lets the agency know when levels are bad.
