Put those tweezers down! It’s Frida Fest!

The July 11 Second Saturday Artwalk in Bay St. Louis will have a fiesta flair as fans of the legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo celebrate what would have been her 108th birthday.

As always on Second Saturday, look for special events, live music and gallery openings from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. throughout Old Town.

Frida Fest is the brain-child of Sandy Maggio and Ann Madden, owners of Smith & Lens Gallery at 106 South Second St.

Those so inclined are encouraged to wear Mexican attire for the occasion.

Festivities include a Frida look-a-like costume contest at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Mockingbird and Smith & Lens, a “unibrow on a stick” photo opp, a period mural painting on the side of Gallery 220 at 220 Main, Mexican Bingo and traditional Mexican music and dance.

At least two Old Town restaurants will serve Mexican food: The Starfish Café and the Mockingbird Café.

And, as is the Second Saturday tradition, two Old Town businesses shine as “Hot Spots.” This month it’s Time After Time inside Bay Emporium on Second Street and 200 North Beach Restaurant.
