Last week the sand was black in spots. Today there was a lot of red. Any thoughts or theories on what causes the colors? And extra points to whoever can explain where all that asphalt comes from.

My guess on asphalt clumps are natural oil seeps in gulf of mexico. They are a lot more famous offshore California in Santa Barbara area. It is also possible that these could be from deepwater horizon incident because a lot of dispersant was used at well to make oil sink to bottom Time and water movement could do the rest with some making it to BSL beaches. Just my two cents worth. Carl
