An eagle, a goat & the War of 1812

This morning’s walk was a “Dear Diary” one, with a couple of unique encounters.

First, at the spot where Boudreaux likes to take a restorative dip in the water, was a large bald eagle apparently taking a break from fishing.

The eagle was in no hurry at all to leave, even though gulls were doing their best to shoo it away. It was quite a show.

Then we ran across something totally unexpected, even for Washington Street. A large Navy contingent from Belle Chasse, La., complete with a goat named Sid, was preparing for what I was told was a reenactment of the War of 1812. A mini “fleet” was at the ready. Now, my knowledge of military history is scant, but I’m guessing the goat didn’t have a role in the war.

An eagle, a goat on a leash and a military reenactment. So, how was your morning?

  1. Until I read this, I thought my day had gotten off to a lively start. I mean, Wal Mart on a Saturday morning? That takes courage. This looks like it was lots more fun, but then a root canal would have been more fun. How did Boudreaux and the goat get along?

    • I don’t think the dog actually realized the goat was there, or even that it was a goat. But what do I know. Boudreaux may have seen a goat when he was a puppy.
