Organizers are calling it a revival.
It’s been more than a decade since Hancock County had a county fair and the tradition will be revived for five days next month at the county’s Multi-Purpose Arena.
The County Fair is set for Sept. 24-28 starting each day at 9 a.m. A PCA rodeo plus livestock, exhibits, midway rides, arts and crafts, hot air balloon rides, live entertainment, food and a scholarship pageant are all part of the fair.
Event coordinator LeAyn Walton grew up attending the Washington Parish fair, which she said brought excitement and an economic boost to her Louisiana hometown. “It put Franklinton on the map,” she said. She’s expecting a big turnout for the Hancock County and said feedback has been positive.
Friday’s entertainment lineup includes Ross Grisham starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by Rochelle Harper and The Moss Crick Band at 7 p.m. and headliners Confederate Railroad at 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Pat Murphy and The Jumpin’ Jukes open at 4 p.m., then Autumn Risin takes the stage at 6;30 p.m. and Frank Foster at 9 p.m.
Admission is free for the exhibits and entertainment. Rodeo admission on Friday and Saturday is $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event.

This is good news. I’m not a big rodeo fan, but I might have to sneak in and out to hear the Jumpin’ Jukes. Circled on the calendar.
