The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has info about harmful algal blooms, or red tide, on its website, dmr.ms.gov.

There are some FAQs on the site, as well as phone numbers for questions about specific subjects, such as beach closures, fish kills and birds.

“This harmful algal bloom is a unique occurrence for this area,” said Jamie M. Miller, executive director of MDMR. “A red tide is unusual for this time of year, and this red tide stretches from Florida to Louisiana.

“We want the public to have the most up-to-date information, and we also want to answer their questions about the red tide and its effects,” he said.

A link to the FAQs can be found on the front page of the MDMR website under “Red Tide information” or by going to the following link: http://www.dmr.ms.gov/index.php/marine-fisheries/seafood-technology/867-habs.
