If you hurry, you can catch a re-creation of the famous naval battle at the Washington Street pavilion. Complete with water balloon bombs.
The “battleships” belong to personnel from the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse on the West Bank of New Orleans. The exercise is part of a chief petty officer training program for about 17 candidates chosen for promotion from E6 to E7.
Last year, as reported here, the battle was from the War of 1812, and personnel brought along a billy goat mascot.
Cool. Nice break from the Sept. Shoofly Calendar update. Really wish they didn’t use 100’s of water balloons to bombard the “ships.” That’s a lot of stuff for the fishies to eat!
