Guess what’s coming back!

farmers market

Hancock County’s popular Farmers Market is coming back to 3068 Longfellow Road in Bay St. Louis.

Starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, vendors will be selling produce, plants, pastries, jams and jellies, pecans, homemade pickles and pralines, Italian delicacies and much more.

Before Hurricane Katrina, the weekly market drew vendors and shoppers from a large area. After Katrina, the county supervisors built five large covered pavilions and rest rooms at the Longfellow site with the goal of bringing the market back. The board is providing the space, electricity and parking free of charge to support the market comeback.

Several vendors have said they will be at the Dec. 3 opening day and more are expected to request space to sell their goods in the future.

David and Cindy Kenny, who have voluntarily been spearheading the farmers market return, are recruiting more vendors. One drawing card, they say, is the fact that hundreds of people come and go to the Bay Soccer League games played on Saturdays at the adjacent fields.

Vendors interested in the farmers market should contact David Kenny at 228-860-6203 or Cindy Kenny at 228-731-6677.
