The Pineapple: beach rentals now available

The Pineapple (Food-Drink-Rentals) is the new beach vendor for the Washington Street Pier in the Bay and the Garfield Ladner Pier in Waveland. Owner Sean Riley, who moved recently from Madison, Miss., to Waveland, got the seasonal contract with Hancock County from June to November for three years.

Riley is now renting kayaks, paddle boards and beach umbrellas at Washington Street and plans to add a food truck serving burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, snowballs and other items. He’s got three picnic tables in place already.

“If things take off, I’d like to be able to add jet skis, and we might get some fishing kayaks and do weekly fishing excursions by the train tracks,” he said. Riley plans to operate at Washington Street at least five days a week. The plans for Coleman Avenue are still in the works.

Riley and his wife, Mendi, visited the area two years ago for their daughter’s volleyball tournament and liked what they saw. “We started coming down every weekend we possibly could and decided to make the move,” he said. They are remodeling their home on Nicholson Avenue.

Rental fees: Kayak $25 for 2 hours and $35 for full day.  Stand up paddle boards $25 for 2 hours and $35 for full. Two beach chairs and an umbrella $15 for 2 hours and $25 for day. Boogie board is $5 for 2 hours. Tandem kayak is $35 for 2 hours and $45 for full day.
