Saturday Scoop: New restaurant now open

The Scoop: New restaurant opens in the Bay

The former location at 107 Court St. where Purple Banana and then Court Street Cafe operated is now open as Portside Cafe.

Owners Lesley and Matthew Touart, residents of Waveland, say they want their new venture to serve families.

“Our goal is to establish somewhere that is family friendly and budget friendly,” Lesley said. It’s a place offering breakfast, lunch specials, afternoon snacks for kids and to-go orders.

Scott Duplantis, who has experience working in several restaurants on the Coast, heads up the kitchen, where menu items are being tweaked by customer demand. “We’re seeing what’s been popular,” Lesley said.

Early frontrunners with customers are the Bay Harbor Burger, hand-cut fries, club sandwich, breakfast bowls and Belgian waffles are stuffed with your choice of fruit, cream cheese, eggs and bacon. “Those are wonderful. Anything you want we can stuff them with,” Lesley said. Blue Bell ice cream in several flavors also is a popular choice.

Portside Cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday at 7 a.m. Breakfast is served Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Closing time is 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
