GULFPORT Ever have dinner with the farmer or fisherman who grew the vegetables, raised the cattle or hauled in the fresh shrimp? You can on Wednesday.

That’s when Real Food Gulf Coast and Island View Casino Resort will present Know Your Food, Know Your Farmer from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Carter Green Steakhouse. Tickets are $25.

Taste grass-fed beef, goat, lamb, free-range chicken, shrimp, handmade pasta and organic and naturally grown fruits and vegetables prepared by Island View’s award-winning culinary crew.

The walkabout-style event was organized by Real Food Gulf Coast’s Diane Claughton and Dita McCarthy, who have invited New Orleans food journalist Poppy Tooker, MSU’s Gary Bachman of “Southern Gardening” and Coast food writer Julian Brunt to share their knowledge about local foods with guests.

Island View’s Ed Layton said, “It is our privilege to partner with Real Food Gulf Coast as we invite local farmers and growers to share and showcase the bounty of foods that can be sourced right in our backyard with this unique culinary event.”
