Hancock County Farmers Market: Rick’s Produce is farm fresh

Every Saturday, Mike Gulino and his crew from Rick’s Produce set up long tables of farm fresh produce and glass jars containing delicious treats. They sell everything from pickled quail eggs to sweet jellies and jams. Also look for cracklings, green beans (bundled with new potatoes), tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, anything on your shopping list.

Rick’s Produce is based in Slidell. The owners have two farms in Hammond, La., where they grow produce, and they also grow citrus in Plaquemines Parish, La.

As shoppers browse, Mike keeps track of his inventory on a white board set up behind the tables. He’s also available to tell you about unusual items he’s selling like the purple sweet potatoes he had last week, and he’ll tell you how to cook them, too.

Stop by on Saturday to see what’s fresh and delicious from Rick’s Produce.

Today Mike will have samples of strawberry jam, with sugar and also with no sugar added.
