Bay Council recap: wait until next time

Last night’s meeting was long on agenda items, short on action. At least up to 8 p.m. when I departed.

The $131,677.63 claims docket was approved by all except Councilman Falgout.

The long guest list dwindled but there was an impressive presentation during the public forum by the Young Politicians of Hancock County who shared their views on education, public safety, parks and recreation and career opportunities.

Other public forum notes:

A new board in the county is addressing domestic violence. Next meeting is Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. in St. Rose’s Holy Spirit Center.

The city’s gun ordinance is a big question mark as to what was even voted on by the Council. More at the next meeting Feb. 23.

Another question from the floor: what’s happening with the Realtors’ group looking into vacation rentals in the city. Nothing to report last night.

Jane Carrow, Clerk of Council, is retiring May 8. The city will start looking for a new clerk pronto.

Old business getting older:
City dump site cost report not ready.
Harbor wave action study results in the hands of the Harbor Commission and will be presented at next Council meeting. A new 190-foot breakaway could tame the troublesome east wind.
Sand beach vendor ordinance didn’t go to P&Z after all since it’s not a zoning issue; to be voted on next meeting.

There will be a workshop with the Council and Harbor Commission Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. to talk about what commercial activity should be allowed in the harbor.
