Welcome Beatles

NEW ORLEANS It was plenty years ago today that a group of us went to The Beatles concert in City Park Stadium. Tickets were $5. I was lucky enough to win mine from a contest that WNOE had and got to sit on the field in front of the stage. But sitting down really wasn’t an option once the band ran out on to the stage to perform. The crowd, as they say, went wild.

Before the concert, the brave father who drove us all over was good enough to stop at the Congress Inn on Chef Highway where The Beatles were staying. We didn’t see them but we did spot their manager, Brian Epstein, in the restaurant. I can’t remember posing for this photo or why on earth we carried purses. Anybody else go to this concert?

  1. Couldn’t afford the price of the ticket, but on the day of the concert, I WAS in my doctor’s office (Frank Minyard) when he got a call that “one of the Beatles has a sore throat and needs a doctor.” We later learned it was George. It never occurred to the doc to get an autograph.
